Three new trends in the China‘s medical device industry in 2023

2023-02-02

01 .Centralized procurement “hunting circle” will be expanded, and product exports will be frequent
In 2022, the scope of centralized procurement  will be further expanded.
centralized procurement of orthopaedics achieves full coverage of spine, joint and trauma, and the average price reduction of spine collection is 84%. Sports medicine is expected to be included in the next centralized procurement plan.
centralized procurement of coronary stent has been implemented for nearly two years. On November 29, 2022, the national procurement bid was renewed, with a total demand of 1.865 million filled in. The centralized procurement rate of enterprises reached 91%, and the average price of selected stent was about 770 yuan.
The bid of the centralized purchase of dental implants was opened in Chengdu on January 13, with an average price reduction of 55%. This is the first time that the centralized purchase has extended its tentacles into the consumer field.
The electrophysiological centralized purchase, which has been difficult to promote, produced the result of the proposed winner in December 2022. The overall price reduction is relatively moderate, and the imported brands still occupy the market advantage.
Export is not only market-driven, but also encouraged by policy.
In the “14th Five-Year Plan” medical equipment industry development plan of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, it is emphasized that 6-8 enterprises will be among the top 50 in the global medical equipment industry by 2025.
In 2018, Bluesail completed the acquisition of BiosensorInternational Group Ltd., the world’s fourth largest heart stent research and development, production and sales enterprise, which became the beginning of Bluesail Medical’s official layout of the overseas high-end medical device market.
In 2021, Lepu Medical got the CE certification and exported its products to Europe. In 2022, it started the globalization layout and the internationalization strategy came into being.

02 “Innovation” has become a buzzword in the industry In recent years, innovation has become the main theme in the medical device sector.

On January 5, 2023, Cbmed’s domestic extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) products were officially approved for market, achieving a breakthrough in the localization of “artificial lung” from zero to one.
In April 2022, Yuanhuatech. assisted knee robot received marketing approval from the NMPA, filling a gap in the domestic robotic assisted joint replacement market.
During the 86th CMEF, Chinese medical imaging giant Xingao Yi unveiled its latest approved liquid helium-Free series products.
In November 2022, Eyebright Medical’s innovative product “Aspheric Diffractive Multifocal IOL” was approved for marketing, achieving a zero breakthrough in the field of domestic multifocal IOLs.
According to relevant data, since the NMPA opened the fast approval channel for innovative medical devices in 2014, by the end of last year, a total of 351 medical devices entered the special review procedure for innovative medical devices, among which 134 innovative medical devices from 113 enterprises were approved for listing.

On September 7, 2022, the regular session of the State Council decided to provide periodic discount interest on loans for equipment upgrading and renovation in some sectors and increase credit support for the social services sector.
On September 13, 2022, the State Council decided to support the renewal and transformation of equipment in some fields with special refinancing and financial discount;
Subsequently, the Health Commission also issued a notice, intending to use financial discount loans to update and transform medical equipment.
The use direction of this discount loan includes the purchase of various medical equipment such as diagnosis and treatment, clinical examination, severe illness, rehabilitation, scientific research transformation, etc., covering nine fields such as universities, vocational colleges, hospitals, small and micro enterprises.
In response to the “liberalisation policy”, the demand for medical equipment has increased, such as oximeters, ventilators, defibrillators, monitors and oxygen generators.
At present, China has taken the medical equipment industry into the emerging strategic industry.
