On February 6, the Shanghai Public Resources Trading Center issued the Notice on Carrying out Information Maintenance of Orthopedic Trauma Medical Consumables in Shanghai.
The Notice points out that in order to further promote the centralized procurement of medical consumables in the city, all relevant production and general agent enterprises of orthopaedic trauma medical consumables products are required to log into the Shanghai Medical Procurement Service and Supervision Information System (medical devices) for information maintenance and fill in the selected prices of centralized procurement with volume from other provinces (cities and allied regions).
This information maintenance window is from February 7, 2023 to February 16, 2023.
If the enterprise fails to timely maintain information as required or fill in false information, it will affect the subsequent centralized procurement work, and the consequences arising therefrom shall be borne by the enterprise itself.
The release of this notice means that the field of orthopedics centralized procurement full coverage has entered the final stage.
As the process enters the information maintenance stage, Shanghai orthopedic trauma medical consumables centralized procurement step is approaching, is expected to be implemented in the first half of this year.

In March 2022, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei “3+N” 17-province alliance launched the combined purchase of orthopedic trauma medical consumables with the upper limit of the selected price of the 12-province alliance in Henan.
The total number of units purchased under this agreement was 1,085,700 set.
Finally, 20,026 products from 89 enterprises were selected, with an average price reduction of 83.48%. Among them, the locking compression plate system (including universal) decreased from 14155.39 yuan to 367.22 yuan, with the highest reduction of 97.41%, reaching the largest price cutting range in the field of orthopedic trauma
It is worth noting that in the “Notice”, Shanghai Special Service requires that the relevant production and general agent enterprises should fill in and submit the selected price of centralized purchase with volume in other provinces (cities, alliance regions) when maintaining information.

In conclusion, as orthopedics is included in the list of national focus, the future centralized procurement of orthopedics consumables will be more frequent, and towards a deeper level.
In the form of implementation, regional alliances and provincial alliances will push forward by region, and go deeper into those more segmented products that are currently out of the centralized procurement with volume but also in clinical demand.
In addition, under the linkage of national unified bid and procurement platform, it has become the current mainstream to realize the sharing of “lowest consumable price” across the country, which will promote the price reduction of orthopedic consumables in a wider range.
It is worth noting that the current centralized procurement selection results show that the intensity of the pressure on the price has become moderate.
