Overview of Industrial Development

Industrial scale of Guangdong Province

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, the output value of Guangdong Province in 2022 reached 282.186 billion yuan, ranking first in the country, accounting for 21.74% of the total national output value, and the compound growth rate of 2018-2022 was 25.38%.

2 Industrial scale of prefecture-level cities

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, in 2022, Shenzhen ranked first in Guangdong Province in terms of industrial scale, with an output value of 88.994 billion yuan, and a compound growth rate of 32.83% from 2018 to 2022; Guangzhou and Foshan ranked second and third with 69.596 billion yuan and 20.105 billion yuan, respectively, with a compound growth rate of 27.96% and 19.45% from 2018 to 2022.

Situation of Industrial Enterprises

Number of production enterprises

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, there were 5,896 production enterprises in Guangdong Province in 2022, of which 3,957 could produce class I products, 2,893 could produce class II products, and 286 could produce class III enterprises.

Distribution of enterprises

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, by the end of 2022, there were 1789 high-tech enterprises, 46 specialized, refined, and new small giant enterprises, 30 listed enterprises, 18 listed enterprises, 497 specialized, refined, and new small and medium-sized enterprises, and 1495 technology-based

smes;

There were 1617 production enterprises in Guangzhou, including 431 high-tech enterprises, 5 specialized, refined, and new small giant enterprises, 11 listed enterprises, 5 listed enterprises, 194 specialized, refined, and new small and medium-sized enterprises, and 409 technology-based smes;

There were 1590 production enterprises in Shenzhen, including 643 high-tech enterprises, 30 specialized, refined, and new small giant enterprises, 13 listed enterprises, 6 listed enterprises, 60 specialized, refined, and new small and medium-sized enterprises, and 619 technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises.

Import and Export Scale

Overall import and export situation

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, the export value of Guangdong Province in 2022 was 68.152 billion yuan, down 13.54% year-on-year, and the compound growth rate of exports in 2018-2022 was 11.9%. In terms of imports, the value of imports in 2022 was 22.906 billion yuan, down 10.86% year-on-year, and the compound growth rate from 2018 to 2022 was 3.31%.

Import and export categories

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, medical consumables accounted for the largest proportion of exports in Guangdong Province in 2022, with an export value of 25.785-billion-yuan, accounting for 37.83%, followed by medical equipment, with an export value of 25.485 billion yuan, accounting for 37.39%; In terms of imports, IVD reagents account for the largest proportion, with an import value of 7.751 billion yuan, accounting for 33.84%.

Product registration and filing status

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, there were 38,931 products registered and filed in Guangdong Province in 2022, of which the number of Class I products was 23,990, the number of Class II and Class III products was 13,094 and 1,847, respectively, and the number of Class II and Class III products accounted for 38.4%.

Product registration in prefecture-level cities

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, Shenzhen ranked first in the total number of medical device product registration and records in Guangdong Province in 2022, with 14,308 product registration and records, accounting for 36.8% of the province, of which 7,119 were class II and III products, and Class II and III account for 49.8%; Guangzhou and Foshan ranked second and third, with 12,766 and 3,090 product registration and records, accounting for 32.8% and 7.9% of the province’s total, respectively.

Product category distribution

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, the product category with the largest amount of product registration and filing in Guangdong Province in 2022 was in vitro diagnostic reagents, reaching 14,753 pieces, accounting for 37.9%, of which 14,195 products were registered or filed for the first time. This was followed by infusion, nursing and protective equipment and physical therapy equipment, with 6,144 and 2,911, accounting for 15.78% and 7.48%, respectively.

Patent Situation

Overview of patents in Guangdong Province

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, the total number of patents issued by medical device manufacturers in Guangdong Province from 2018 to 2022 totaled 128,073, and there were 31,982 in 2022, of which 2021 had the largest number, reaching 34,027. The number of patents issued by medical institutions totaled 25,859, with 7,879 in 2022, the largest number in the past five years.

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, among medical device manufacturers, OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communication Co., Ltd ranked first in the number of patents issued in 2018-2022, with a total of 13,404; Hans Laser and Mindray ranked second and third, with 4,926 and 2,877 patents issued, respectively.

Professional Service Capability

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, by the end of 2022, Guangdong Province had 158 top three hospitals, 199 animal testing institutions, 123 clinical trial institutions, 32 medical device testing institutions, 151 third-party online trading platforms and 145 third-party logistics qualification enterprises.

In Guangzhou, there were 50 top three hospitals, 107 animal testing institutions, 46 clinical testing institutions, 18 medical device testing institutions, 72 third-party online trading platforms and 128 third-party logistics qualified enterprises.

There were 31 top three hospitals in Shenzhen, 34 animal testing institutions, 34 clinical testing institutions, 9 medical device testing institutions, 56 third-party online trading platforms and 5 third-party logistics qualified enterprises.

Industrial Cluster

Industrial cluster

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, the medical device industry in Guangdong province is mainly concentrated in Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park, which had 492 enterprises by the end of 2022. Nanhai Economic Development Zone in Foshan, Guangdong Province, and Panyu Economic and Technological Development Zone in Guangzhou ranked second and third with 185 and 153, respectively.

Theme Park

According to JOINCHAIN statistics, as of the end of 2022, the number of enterprises in the theme park in Guangdong Province was the largest, with 98, followed by SOFTWARE TOWN OF SHENZHEN UNIVERSIADE (96) and Tiannan Hi-tech Ecological Park (96).
