Ophthalmic diagnostic instruments market size
According to the 2022 White Paper on International Myopia Surgery between China and Europe, there are about 2.5 billion people with myopia worldwide, and 600 million people in China. The incidence of myopia in Asia is higher than that in Europe and America, while the incidence of myopia in China ranks the first in Asia, reaching 48.5%.
According to the Global Prevalence of Myopia and High Myopia and Temporary Trends from 2000 through 2050, the global number of nearsightedness will exceed 4.758 billion people (with a myopia rate of approximately 50%) by 2050, and the number of nearsightedness individuals will steadily increase. There are differences in myopia rates among people in different regions around the world, and the proportion of myopia population in China ranks among the top in the world.
According to Frost & Sullivan, China’s ophthalmologic diagnostic device market has grown from 1.3 billion yuan in 2016 to 2 billion yuan in 2020, with a compound annual growth rate of 11.7%, and is expected to reach 4.6 billion yuan in 2025 and 8 billion yuan in 2030, respectively. The compound annual growth rate for 2020 to 2025 and 2025 to 2030 is 18.2 per cent and 11.8 per cent respectively.
In 2021, the market size of China’s ophthalmic laser diagnostic devices was approximately 1.2-billion-yuan, accounting for 48% of the entire ophthalmic medical diagnostic device market. The market size of non- laser optical diagnostic devices was approximately 1.1-billion-yuan, accounting for 44% of the entire ophthalmic medical diagnostic device market.
According to MDCLOUD, by the end of July 2022, there were 351 valid registered ophthalmologist diagnostic devices in China, including 213 domestically made products and 138 imported ones.
